Protestants don't believe in Scripture Alone

Updated: Apr 24

On Jn10v30, Lenski correctly points out: I and the Father, we are one. The equal power to protect the sheep is due to the equality of these two persons. This makes the mighty acts of equal protection perfectly plain. “We are one,” therefore, cannot be reduced to mean only one in purpose, will, and work. This, however true it may be in itself, does not suffice; for the reference is to power, namely almighty power, against which no other being, however great his power may be, is able to rise. To deny that equality of power is here expressed is to deny just what is asserted.

Quote from: R. C. H. Lenski, The Interpretation of St. John’s Gospel (Minneapolis, MN: Augsburg Publishing House, 1961), 759.

(Underlines mine for emphasis)

"one" in Jn10v30 means: number one, supreme over all, all-powerful.

The Facebook group 'Scripture Alone' claimed that 'there are a lot of verses that clearly state that there is only one God'. As shown above, I explained that the verses he cited did not 'state that there is only one God'. However, he did not reply at all to my explanation of those verses. The quote below describes that Facebook group perfectly:

The ability to understand the authorial intention of Scripture can be distorted by our tradition as well. In the words of the late hermeneutics scholar Grant Osborne, "We rarely read the Bible to discover truth; more often, we wish to harmonize it with our belief system and see its meaning in light of our preconceived theological system." Or, more lyrically put, "Wonderful things in the Bible I see, most of them put there by you and me." Interpreters can and frequently do read their Bibles with the intention of proving the teaching of their theological tradition true rather than giving an honest assessment of the text's meaning and purpose.

Please consider The Gospel Coalition's excellent review of Nathan MacDonald’s book, Deuteronomy and the Meaning of “Monotheism”

This is one of the most significant and exciting books of biblical theology I have read for some time, illustrating how the Bible can come to life when critical attention is paid to the contemporary context of its interpretation.. I wholeheartedly commend this book, and I hope that in due course the author will be able to present his insights in a more popular form.

The full review:

If you read it, let me know what you think about this quote from Nathan MacDonald:

The first aim of this work has been to argue that Deuteronomy does not, at any point, present a doctrine of God that may be described as “monotheism”.. Indeed, it may be asked whether what has been shown to be true of Deuteronomy may also be true of the rest of the Old Testament, including the priestly material and Isaiah 40-55?

Lizzie's info says "Sola Scriptura POR VIDA (Scripture Alone FOR LIFE)".

Read on to see how long that conviction lasts and importantly, see whether she practises Scripture Alone.

Consider this "Bible Christian's" arguments.

What happened to Sola Scriptura? Scripture ALONE? I quoted Scripture: Jms2v24.

Seifrid agrees:

It is worth observing that Paul never speaks of Christ’s righteousness as imputed to believers, as became standard in Protestantism.

Quote from: Mark A. Seifrid, Christ, Our Righteousness: Paul’s Theology of Justification, ed. D. A. Carson, vol. 9, New Studies in Biblical Theology (England: Apollos, 2000), 174.

Blomberg and Kamell:

It is interesting to note that this (James 2:24) is the only time in the NT that the three words “by faith alone” (ἐκ πίστεως μόνον) appear without intervening material. That expression is the best Greek translation of the Reformation rallying call, sola fide, “by faith alone,” but this is exactly the opposite of what James is arguing for!

1: The Protestant church does not worship the Father, the Son and the Spirit revealed in Scripture, the 3 Gods who each have the name 'HE-IS'. Instead, the Protestant church worships a 3-is-1-god named Trinity which contradicts Scripture. Since this 3-is-1-god is not revealed in Scripture, the 'god' named Trinity has no real existence.

Apostle Paul said in 1Cor8v4: .. we know that “an idol has no real existence. An idol represents a non-existent god. Thus, people who worship the non-existent god named Trinity are committing idolatry.

2: The Protestant church does not accept the true Good News. Instead, the Protestant church accepts a different 'Good News', the 'Faith-Alone' fake news that contradicts Scripture.

Heed Apostle Paul's warning:

Gal1: 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in favor and are turning to a different Good News (e.g. the Protestant 'Faith-Alone' fake news)! 7 Not that there is another one, but there are some who are troubling you and wanting to distort the Good News of Anointed-One. 8 But even if we or a Messenger from heaven is preaching a Good News contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be anathema! 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a Good News contrary to the one you received, let him be anathema! (Meaning that all Protestant 'gospel' preachers will be anathema: cast into the lake of fire)

10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a slave of Anointed-One.

Please let me appeal to you with Apostle Paul's words.

2Cor11: 1 I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! 2 For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to the Anointed-One. 3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Anointed-One. 4 For if someone comes and proclaims another 'Jesus' than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different 'Spirit' from the one you received, or if you accept a different 'Good News' from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. (The Trinity is not only made up of another 'Jesus' and another 'Spirit', it is even made up of a different 'God the Father' who together are the 3-is-1-god that contradicts Scripture. The Protestant 'Faith-Alone-gospel' explicitly contradicts Jms2v20 and 24 and yet Protestants put up with all these errors readily enough. Celebrate it even!) 5 Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these 'super-apostles'. 6 Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things.

If any Protestant pastor or scholar can show me that I have misinterpreted Scripture, I will change. But none have. I have studied the writings of the Protestant 'super-apostles' and can plainly see their errors.

Let me show you a simple example.

Sproul (Protestant):

That name, Elohim, is striking because the suffix, him, is the plural ending of the Hebrew noun, so one could translate the name Elohim as “gods.” However, while the name Elohim has a plural ending, it always appears with singular verb forms. So the writer was saying something that could not be interpreted to mean “many gods.”

Quote from: Sproul, R. C. (2011). What Is the Trinity? (Vol. 10, page 7). Orlando, FL: Reformation Trust.

(Underline mine for emphasis)

Gen20: 13 And when Gods ('ĕlōhîm: plural noun) they-caused-me-to-wander (hiṯʿû: plural verb) from my father's house, I said to her, ‘This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”

Victor Hamilton (Protestant) notes the plural verb used with the plural noun ('ĕlōhîm) in this verse and in other verses

Note the use of the plural verb hiṯʿû with 'ĕlōhîm. 'ĕlōhîm occurs with a plural verb here and in Gen 31:53; Gen 35:7; Exod. 22:8 (Eng. 9); 2 Sam. 7:23 (but singular in the parallel verse in 1 Chr. 17:21); with a plural participle in Ps. 58:12 (Eng. 11); in the expression “living God,” Deut. 5:26; 1 Sam. 17:26, 36; Jer. 10:10; 23:36.

Quote from: Victor P. Hamilton, The Book of Genesis, Chapters 18–50, The New International Commentary on the Old Testament (Grand Rapids, MI: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., 1995), page 65, note 7.

'ĕlōhîm does not “always appear with singular verb forms” as Sproul, Mounce and NIDOTTE claim. Gen20v13: Gods ('ĕlōhîm: plural noun) they-caused-me-to-wander (plural verb).

Sproul is wrong. The writer of Gen20v13 (and other similar verses) was saying something that must be interpreted to mean “many gods.”

In Gen20v13, you have just read about the true Gods who exist and must be worshiped, the Gods ('ĕlōhîm: plural noun) of Abraham.

Let me resume. 2Cor11: 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Anointed-One. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angelic-Messenger of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

Let me appeal to you,

2Cor6: 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (e.g. Protestant 'super-apostles'). For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Anointed-One with Beliar? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols (e.g. worshiping the non-existent 'god' named Trinity)? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them (e.g. the Protestant 'super-apostles'), says the Master, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you,18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Master All-Ruler.”

If you want God the Father to be your Heavenly Father, you have to meet his condition: leave the Protestant 'super-apostles' who teach you to commit idolatry by worshiping the non-existent 'god' named Trinity and leave the Protestant false teachers who teach you to desert God by believing their 'Faith-Alone' fake news disguised as the Good News.

2Cor7: 1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

If you do not fear God's wrath, be warned, idolaters and all liars will be condemned to the lake of fire.

Rev21v8: But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Idol worshipers, including worshipers of the non-existent 'god' named Trinity, will be condemned to the lake of fire.

Liars are people who tell lies. But liars are also people who like to listen to wicked people.

Prov17v4: An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.

Anyone who teaches people to commit idolatrous Trinity worship has wicked lips and a mischievous tongue. Anyone who teaches people to believe the 'Faith-Alone' fake news disguised as the Good News has wicked lips and a mischievous tongue. Thus, anyone who gives ear to messages promoting idolatrous Trinity worship is an evildoer and a liar. And anyone who gives ear to messages promoting the Protestant 'gospel' is an evildoer and a liar.

All liars, including Protestant teachers and Protestant listeners, all liars will be condemned to the lake of fire.

Let's end with Jesus' warnings:

Lk12: 47 And that slave who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. (You now know that worshiping Trinity is idol worship. You now know that believing the Protestant 'Faith-Alone-gospel' is turning to a different Good News and thus is deserting God. If you refuse to repent, your punishment in the lake of fire will be more severe.) 48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. (No one escapes punishment for their unrepentant sins by using the excuse 'I did not know it was wrong'. They will still be punished in the lake of fire, just not as severely as those who knew they were sinning and still chose to continue.) Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.

49 “I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! 50 I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished! 51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. 52 For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Obedience to Jesus always leads to division, even in your own family. I know this full well. But it is always better to act according to the Master's will and be saved from his wrath.

Separate yourselves from the Protestant hypocrites. If they truly practised what they preached about Scripture Alone, they would not worship Trinity nor believe the 'Faith-Alone' fake news.

but..
